Goutweed

Goutweed

Goutweed (Aegopodium podagraria) Goutweed has a tendency to escape gardens and spread quickly to become a monoculture. Goutweed can spread quickly because of its very aggressive roots (rhizomes), underground horizontal roots systems that can travel for several meters and from which new plants pop up to the surface. Due to the speed of spread and aggressive root systems, this plant can quickly choke out other plants and shrubs turning a yard, a property, and sometimes several hectares of nothing but goutweed.
